What is The Ick?

The Ick is an Instagram follow tracker. You type in a public Instagram username and it shows you who that person recently followed, who followed them, and who they unfollowed, sorted by most recent. It then checks the profile every hour and sends you a notification when something changes. It went viral on TikTok because Instagram itself hides this: the following list on someone's profile is not in chronological order, so you cannot see who your boyfriend, your ex or your crush just followed. The Ick makes that visible without ever asking for your Instagram password.

What The Ick shows you

For any public profile you track:

  • Recent follows: the accounts they started following, newest first
  • Recent followers: who started following them
  • Unfollows in both directions
  • Follower and following counts over time
  • A gender breakdown of their recent follows
  • Push notifications the moment a change is detected

You can track up to 5 profiles at the same time.

What it cannot do

The Ick only reads public data. It cannot show private accounts, direct messages, likes, comments, story views or anything Instagram does not make public. It cannot show history from before you started tracking, because Instagram does not expose it. If a tool claims to do any of that, it is not telling the truth.

Where to get it

Two official places: the web app at theick.io and the Android app on Google Play. iPhone users use the web app in Safari and can add it to the home screen. There is currently no official App Store app and no APK to download outside Google Play. See the official app page to avoid copycats.

Is it free?

Searching a profile and seeing the first analysis is free. Continuous tracking and notifications need a subscription, which starts at 8.99 USD per week or 34.99 USD per year in the US and costs less in many countries. Prices are published on the pricing page and there is no hidden fee.

Is it anonymous?

Yes. The Ick never logs into Instagram and never touches the tracked profile, so the person is not notified and cannot see who is watching. Read more on is The Ick legit.

Frequently asked questions

What does The Ick do?
It tracks a public Instagram profile and shows who they recently followed, who followed them and who they unfollowed, with hourly checks and notifications.
Why is it called The Ick?
The ick is Gen Z slang for the sudden feeling of being put off by someone. The app is named after the feeling you get when you see who they just followed.
Do I need to log in with Instagram?
No. The Ick only uses public data and never asks for your Instagram username or password.
Does it work on private accounts?
No. Private accounts hide their lists from everyone, so no tool can track them.
Is The Ick on the App Store?
Not right now. Use the web app at theick.io on iPhone, or the Android app on Google Play. Apps on the App Store using the name are not ours.
